Best Hurricane Party in History

I flew back to Philly last week for my next-door neighbor's WEDDING! I've had Margo and Eric's "save the date" invitation on my fridge for almost a year.  This was a very highly anticipated event.

Anyone who knows my family probably knows the Smiths from next door.  (That's the proud FOB Mr. Smith walking Margo down the aisle-- doesn't she look radiant?)  These guys are the best neighbors.  Margo and I hung out the majority of days of our childhood.  We both loved to bake, and we'd actually fax recipes over to each other.  ("Hey Margo, it's me again.  Could you please fax me your 7-Layer Cookies?  Thanks.")  We could have taken the minute to walk over, but we were keeping up with the 90s.

Margo and Eric's wedding was scheduled right as Hurricane Irene was making landfall in Philadelphia.  It was pretty exciting.  As we were glued to the weather channel for the days leading up to the wedding/the hurricane, we were nervous they'd postpone their big day.  True love conquered, and they decided the hurricane would bring good luck for their marriage.  The wedding went on.

Here's Tara and I with the world's newest couple.

The wedding was held at the swanky Merion Golf Club.  Margo and Eric had to improvise a little because of the storm, mainly that the events weren't held on the golf course, but on the covered patio instead.  No big deal-- the last-minute changes were still so fancy and elegant.

Of course, what's a wedding without flash flooding, trees blown over, power outages, and fire alarms?  I don't think anyone will ever forget this event!  Margo had an amazing, very graceful attitude-- she didn't want people to feel sorry for her on the best day of her life.  She took Hurricane Irene in stride and really set the tone for everyone else to see the humor in the situation.  It turned out to be a really fun wedding and reception.

 Let's get this party started!

Over the years, Margo has brought home a few guys for us to check out (us meaning her parents and the Babbel family), and they were all okay, but none of them shone.  That is, until we met Eric a few Christmases ago.  My whole family really liked him right off the bat.  We are so glad these guys got married-- they make a fabulous couple.  And we're also glad Margo and Eric didn't let Hurricane Irene ruin their big day.

Now they're off to the Greek Isles.  May they live happily ever after!
Congratulations Margo and Eric!

Thanks Karisa. You’re the best. It was a great “Hurricane Wedding” wasn’t it. We were so glad and flattered that you and Tara were able to come so far to be with us. I love the commentary that went along with the photos.

This was the most elegant, fun, and memorable wedding! It was made even more exciting by the wild weather outside which led to all sorts of unpredictable things happening inside. I couldn't help but get choked up when I thought of cute 6-year-old Margo riding her bicycle over to our house years ago.
