After Christmas in Philly, we drove down to DC and boarded the Amtrak Auto Train. First stop: Tropical Paradise. I mean, Florida.
It's called the Auto Train because you bring your car on board. This train is 3/4 of a mile long, and it transports people and their cars back and forth between DC and Florida every day. It's faster and easier than driving down to Florida, it's much more fun than taking a flight, and there's a novelty about traveling by train that excites even grownups.

(Evan forgot to tell the rest of us to do the can-can for our pose.)
The train departs Washington DC at 4 PM and pulls into Orlando the next morning around 8 AM. In the meantime, we catch up on our reading...
We let Tara entertain us with spur-of-the-moment games, such as sorting the bag of mixed nuts into different piles...
We play hide and go seek...
We eat dinner while watching the sunset over the Chesapeake Bay...
(I accidentally caught the guys mid-chew with this picture.)
We watch the scenery fly by the windows...
We let the jostling of the train lull us to sleep...
And when we wake up and we're anxious to get going in Florida, we distract ourselves by inventing new uses for a popcorn box.
What a way to travel!

Wow, that looks so European! Except that I have never seen sleeper cars with bottom bunks that big. How plush!
Oh man, I am so jealous of this! What a fun tradition!
