Feeling Spontaneous

On Friday night, we ate out at Maggiano's to celebrate the end of John's surgery rotation, and we were brainstorming ideas of something fun to do during our long 3-day weekend. John suddenly exclaimed, "LET'S GO TO NEBRASKA!" For some reason, that sounded like a perfectly logical idea to me too. So we went! John's brother and his family live in Lincoln, and so we started the 10 hour drive first thing on Saturday morning to visit them.

Michelle and Kristen were oozing with love for their new baby cousin, Benson. (In fact, we had to monitor them to make sure they didn't smother him with too much love!) It was sweet to see how excited they were to play with Benson.

Here's Benson and his cousin Benjamin. Benson is about 6 weeks older than Benjamin. We think they were already buddies in heaven, and we were trying to guess what they were thinking when they saw each other. ("Hey man! Sweet body!" "Yours too! What do you think about this earth gig so far?")

This picture is going on their dorm door when Benson and Benjamin are college roommates in 18 years.

We all went to Pioneer Park on Sunday night, a gorgeous park right by Paul and Stacy's house. From the left to the right, it's Benjamin (in the stroller), Michelle, Stacy, Paul, John, Kristen, Benson and me.

Here's Kristen showing us her butterfly farm. Her 5 butterflies just recently emerged from their cocoons, and they are beautiful.

Two generations of McAllisters. Paul and Benjamin, John and Benson.

We saw lots of frogs in the park, but this one must have been the chief frog. It was HUGE!

John was showing Kristen the big frog when it suddenly leaped into the water. (Look closely at the water--this is actually an action shot.)

Duck Duck Goose. Benson was pronounced the "goose" and had to chase Michelle around the circle. (Helped by me.)

London Bridges Falling Down.

We left Nebraska early Monday morning to drive back to Wisconsin, and among all the corn fields and fast food signs, we saw this bus! It must have been driving John McCain up to Minneapolis for the Republican National Convention. We tried to look through the bus windows, but they were tinted so we couldn't see what was going on. (Probably John McCain and his campaign managers playing the license plate game!)
