$25,000 Food Pyramid Game

Our church Relief Society volunteered at a hemophilia (haemophilia?) walk that was held yesterday at the zoo. It was really fun and I learned a lot! I feel much more hemophilia-aware now.

We were each assigned to a booth (picnic table), and the participants would visit the booths and play games or learn something or get a handout. My friend Kristin and I were assigned to what we thought would be the most boring table-- "Discovering the New Food Guide Pyramid." Compared to the bean bag toss or the craft table, we thought nobody would stop by to learn about nutrition with us. We were wrong! Lots and lots came over to play our Food Pyramid game.

Above is the new food pyramid (it isn't as self-explanatory as the old one was-- oh well). Here's a sample of some questions we asked:

1) What is a solid fat? Give an example.

2) What are the 6 nutrients your body needs? (Nobody got this one right except our dietician friend and one brilliant 11-year old.)

3) What is an empty calorie? Give an example.

4) Which food groups give you the most fiber?

5) What is an example of a lean protein?

6) How many minutes are you supposed to be physically active each day?

----------------------------

ANSWERS: (Read upside down and next to a mirror:)
1-something like butter or shortening, 2-carbs, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, water, 3-something with no nutritional value, such as soda, 4-fruits and vegetables, 5-something like fish or chicken or nuts,
6-60 minutes of activity each day.

Anyway, there you have it! Long live health.
